Our Story

Why Choose Us

I’ve spent more than a decade learning sails from the inside out. I started on the service floor, repairing everything from weekend cruiser sails to battered race sails fresh off the start line. That work teaches you where sails actually fail, and what truly matters in how they are built.

I also spent time in big corporate environments at a major loft, then a major boatyard. Those roles taught me how not to do business: disconnected from customers, slow decision cycles, and too many layers between problem and solution.

A chance introduction brought me into the Ullman system. I started managing the Annapolis loft so Greg Koski could focus on Cleveland and Buffalo. Over two years, Greg helped me transition from repair-only work into sail design and sales;  how to listen to what sailors actually need instead of what generates the highest invoice.

That led to this: my own one-room loft, where craftsmanship is visible and accountability is personal.

When I build or repair a sail, I see the boat it goes on and the sailor who will use it.

Why Ullman

As a licensee, I have real control over what I offer. I can build sails here, or use Ullman’s global network when the project benefits from it. Ullman is big enough to support sailors worldwide, but small enough that even a small loft has real input in the direction of the brand.

Craft matters

A decade on the floor teaches you which batten pockets fail, which leech systems actually work, and which “innovations” are solutions looking for problems. I design and finish sails like I’ve learned they need to be: strong where they’re worked, simple where they’re handled, and clean everywhere they matter.

Honesty matters

Dacron sails will exist as white triangles for decades. But their useful life is usually about a decade, or one hard-used circumnavigation. Once the shape is gone, no repair can bring it back.

You’ll always get the truth here; even if that means saving your money instead of spending it with me.

SAIL SERVICES

Inspections are Always Free
Bring your sails in. We’ll unroll them together and talk through what’s solid, what needs attention, and whether repairs are worth the cost.

Repairs
UV covers, stitching breakdown, batten pocket rebuilds, corner reinforcement, hardware upgrades. If it’s a sail, I can fix it.

Recuts
Roller-furling mainsails and genoas without foam luffs are often excellent candidates.
Slab-reefing mains with extensive patching can become labor-heavy quickly.
We’ll start by evaluating the cloth because recutting tired fabric is throwing money away.

Washing
Salt, dirt, and mildew removal. Heavy discoloration may remain. I’ll tell you what to expect before we start.

Hardware Upgrades
Strong Track systems, slides, clew hardware, improved reefing. Anything that makes your boat easier to sail is worth the effort.

Cruising Sails

The right sail for the sailing you actually do.
Design starts with what you want your boat to feel like when you trim.

Built for Smooth Bay Sailing

The Navigator Series provides cruising sailors with affordable, durable sails tailored for day sailing and coastal cruising. Unlike standard stock sails, each Ullman Sails Navigator is custom-designed to fit your boat’s specifications and complement your unique sailing style.

Crafted from premium, tightly woven Dacron in a cross-cut pattern, these sails deliver exceptional durability. Known for its resilience, Dacron offers superior resistance to harsh weather conditions and high-wind flogging.

Reliable Strength for Coastal Cruising

Our durable and robust Endurance Series is expertly crafted for offshore and passage-making cruisers. Built to withstand the demands of long-distance sailing and prolonged exposure to harsh conditions, these sails are meticulously reinforced for lasting performance.

Endurance Series mainsails include extra reinforcement in high-load areas, enabling them to stay reefed for extended periods without damage. Genoas are designed for roller reefing, with added strength at the head and tack to prevent distortion and ensure longevity. For bluewater cruisers seeking strength and reliability, the Endurance Series is the ultimate choice.

The Chesapeake Series sail is built exclusively by Ullman Sails Annapolis. These sails differ from the Navigator Series by using only the absolutely best sail cloths, hardware and finishing but are built in weights appropriate for the Chesapeake Bay. If you are a performance oriented cruising sailor who races or likes to actively sail and get the most out of your boat without stepping into a shorter lived racing sail.

Built for Confident Offshore Cruising

Designed for luxury yachts and high-performance cruisers the Voyager Series takes durability and performance to the next level. These premier sails are custom-built using only the highest-quality materials, ensuring they maintain their optimal shape over a wider wind range and deliver superior performance in all conditions.

Durable and Dependable Performance Cruising

Our Performance Series elevates cruising to a whole new level. Built for offshore and high-latitude cruising and super yachts, these sails are crafted to withstand tough sailing conditions. Combining advanced sailmaking technology, exceptional design, and precise construction, the Performance Series delivers sails that are both more durable and higher performing. Built to extend the lifespan of your sailing journeys, these sails are the perfect choice for dedicated cruisers and adventure sailors.
